When visiting the Checkatrade site to search for tradespeople to carry out work, consumers wanted to contact multiple trades to increase their chances of getting a response and/or to receive multiple quotes for the same job. However, this process was repetitive since the same message had to be sent to each trade the user wanted to contact. Additionally, there was no way to keep track of the trades already contacted. This presented us with an opportunity to introduce a shortlist feature. This enabled users to add multiple tradespeople to a list, write notes against individual trades, and then, when their shortlist had been finalised, they could send a single message. We also saw an opportunity to increase consumer sign-ups by allowing users to sign up at the end of the journey to keep track of the trades they had contacted and wait for a response. Finally, we also explored the idea of introducing a messaging feature between the consumer and tradesperson.
