SANS were going through a period of transformation to uplift their brand and bring their UX/UI inline with their closest competitors. As part of this process SANS wanted to explore design concepts for their online account area for students. SANS offer a variety of cyber security training courses in a range of different formats. The challenge was to enable students to have clear visibility of the courses they were currently taking and to also provide a pathway to cyber security mastery by upselling recommended courses and certifications. Another challenge was students were often coming to the first day of class (online or face-to-face) unprepared to start the course. So the first day of training was often wasted ensuring students had all the correct study materials and software installed. We quickly found that students struggled with identifying what was required of them from the existing course overview. We overhauled this to provide the students with a ‘training ready’ checklist that they would have to complete before starting a course.
